With Halloween fast approaching we’re all looking for some fun ideas for things to do with our little ones. Mums are busy hustling for Halloween costumes, decorating the house and definitely a trip to their local supermarket to get some goodies to give out on the infamous Halloween Night !! However my thoughts go on to development ….how can we incorporate some sensory fun with this theme? Nursery, Child care centres and primary School educators lets all put our brains together and come up with some great ideas to stimulate the development of our little ones. I’m listing down my ideas …. it would be nice if you could leave your ideas too !!
Colouring – Colouring is fun for the little ones . Make sure to use Jumbo Triangular colours for the little ones to aid in grip. Here are some sites with some great colouring pages
Scissor Activities – The opening and closing motion of cutting with scissors helps children develop the small muscles in their hands otherwise known as fine motor skills. … Another important skill that is developed through cutting is bilateral coordination. Check out https://www.activityvillage.co.uk/halloween-scissor-activities for some great Halloween Scissor Activities. (Use Rounded Scissors for Children)
Pumpkin Carving is a must for older children, lots of laughter and fine motor skills is part of this activity too and once done you are left with some healthy delicious pumpkin soup for dinner.
Tuff Tray Ideas – Here are some I have tried out myself
Skelly Jelly…………..use ordinary orange flavoured jelly. Make the jelly as per instructions on the packet, place in a mould add some spider confetti and pop in the fridge to set. Great for very little ones as not only do you stimulate sensation of touch but also smell with the orange flavoured scent.
Find the Spiders – Colour some rice black and Orange and cut up some crepe paper. Hide some incy wincy spiders and encourage the children to look through the rice and paper to find them.
Sensory Bins – You can make various sensory bins using dried peas and beans and inserting candy and pumpkins made from sugar paste.
Using Lights – For the very Little ones, you can use lights and balloons and some decorations to create a mesmerising effect. I used a spider web material and attached some decorations and lights. The little ones watched in amazement and followed the moving deco.
